MISSION
The Hoosick Armory is a 501(c)3 organization owned and operated by the Board of Directors. The Hoosick Armory's mission is to foster the well-being of our community. This is accomplished through a variety of initiatives including: Rural revival, arts, wellness, youth and community programs; small business incubation; community events and outreach; and community partnerships.
HOOSICK ARMORY IMPROVEMENTS - ON THE DRAWING BOARD
The Hoosick Armory Board of Directors have identified key projects that will expand and enhance community activities for future growth. Over 400 visitors access this community center weekly for pickleball, the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, HFCS School activities, Unity House, Living Resources and town offices as well as the town court. Several major events such as St Patrick’s Day celebrations, job fairs, holiday markets, PTA events, private weddings, fundraisers and reunions have been hosted in this 135-year historic building. The Armory continues to be the gateway into downtown Hoosick Falls.
The goal of these projects is to improve accessibility and energy efficiency so that the community can enjoy this historic space into the next millennium. Restrooms that are handicap accessible and meet higher standards are in development. An elevator will provide access to areas that are underutilized in the basement and upper floors. Energy costs are rising and the the building needs to be heated and cooled to keep visitors/tenants comfortable. The installation of solar panels is being explored.
David Borge, Vice President of the Board and former Mayor of the Village, states “It takes a lot of time and money to keep the Armory going. Amazingly, it is all done with rental fees, grants, generous donations, and lots of volunteer hours. We are continually searching for grants and donations and we hope that this year we will be able to meet our goals.”
The Hoosick Armory has come a long way in the last four years. It is the aim of the Board to preserve this community jewel for the next 100 years.
